Planning Tools
The NYSERDA Electric School Bus Guidebook contains information, strategies, and resources to assist school districts, contractors, and other stakeholders as they transition school buses in the State to zero-emission operation by 2035!
The New York State Electric School Bus Roadmap provides an overview of the key challenges, costs, funding mechanisms, and policy options involved in transitioning fleets in New York to zero-emission operation.

$500 Million in Environmental Bond Act Funding is available for Zero-Emission School Buses.

Electric School Bus Federal Tax Credits: Federal incentives like the Alternative Fuel Vehicle Refueling Property Credit (30C) can reduce the cost for a new electric school bus (ESB) as well as charging infrastructure. School districts can access these incentives through the IRA’s elective pay mechanism, which provides a new and streamlined way for tax-exempt entities to access these tax credits.

The World Resources Institute (WRI) started the Electric School Bus Initiative which is dedicated to collaborating to equitably electrify the U.S. school bus fleet.
The New York League of Conservation Voters Education Fund has an Electric School Bus Program that provides resources and information for New York State! They also created a Clean Bus Guide to help community groups in New York State start building momentum for local school bus electrification!
The Cold Weather Impacts on Electric School Buses fact sheet was created by the Joint Office of Energy and Transportation to explain how cold weather impacts electric school buses.
Massachusetts School Fleets Get Answers through Electric Bus Testing is a case study on a $2 million pilot project that allowed three school districts to purchase Type C electric school buses and Level 2 bidirectional vehicle-to-grid (V2G) charging stations.
