Mark Bentley and Phillip Wiedmeyer are 2014 Hall of Fame Award Winners
Alabama Clean Fuels Coalition Executive Director Mark Bentley and President Phillip Wiedmeyer are the latest inductees in the Clean Cities Hall of Fame, which recognizes outstanding contributions to the Clean Cities mission of reducing petroleum use in U.S. transportation. Clean Cities Co-Director Linda Bluestein inducted the pair into the Clean Cities Hall of Fame on Dec. 9, 2014, while in Golden, Colo., where representatives from nearly 100 Clean Cities coalitions from across the country gathered for the annual Clean Cities Coordinator Workshop.
Under Bentley and Wiedmeyer’s leadership, their coalition saved more than 3 million gallons of petroleum in 2013 through use of alternative fuels, advanced vehicles, and fuel efficiency measures. Those same efforts averted more than 12,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions. These accomplishments contributed to Clean Cities’ major milestone in 2013 of reducing U.S. petroleum consumption by one billion gallons in a single year for the first time ever.
Bentley and Wiedmeyer have also become well-respected both in and outside of their coalition’s region for being unbiased, dedicated, fuel neutral, and credible. The dynamic duo has helped shape policy in their state by creating low-interest loan programs and tax reform for natural gas to reduce barriers for alternative fuel adoption. Additionally, the Alabama coalition leaders have worked to create strong programs for ethanol, biodiesel, liquefied natural gas, compressed natural gas, propane, electric vehicles, and hydrogen. Their coalition was also actively involved in creating the country’s first biofuels corridor, a stretch of highway that offers biofuel stations as a fueling option along the entire route.
