A graphic of the map of the United States with the state identified by two capital letters. When you click a state on the map, you're taken to a list of incentives, laws, and regulations for that state.

There are hundreds of laws, incentives, and programs directly related to alternative fuels and vehicles, advanced technologies, and air quality. The newly enhanced Laws and Incentives page on the Alternative Fuels Data Center (AFDC) website now makes it easier to find the handful that are applicable to you, your program, and your stakeholders.

On the state side, you can quickly see a snapshot of all states and the number of laws or incentives by state, while the Recent State Actions page gives you a list of the laws or incentives recently put in place. When you click a state on the map, you’re taken to a list of incentives, laws, and regulations for that state. The most recent items have an “updated” box next to them, so you can quickly locate the latest topic you’ve been hearing about.

An enhanced search function allows you to sort results by jurisdiction (i.e., a particular state), technology/fuel, and incentive or regulation type. Most recently, we’ve added a keyword search that allows you to find a particular law or incentive by its bill number or a key term. Once you get your search results, you can sort within the tool or export your results in a CSV format—invaluable for importing the data into a spreadsheet program for further sorting or analysis. Alternatively, you can download laws and incentives data as a file from the AFDC’s Data Downloads page, which provides additional download formats. Lastly, the Laws and Incentives database is now available as an API that allows programmers to easily use this information in mobile apps and other web tools.
